'33 (A KABARETT)

Written and Performed by Bremner Duthie

Directed by Dave Dawson

’33 is a cabaret of ghosts - a performance piece recreating the final night in a Kabarett destroyed by the Nazis in Berlin in 1933.  A Master of Ceremonies pays homage to his disappeared friends. ’33connects that period of repression with attacks on culture happening around the world.  It debuted in May of this year at the Orlando Fringe Festival and has been performed at festivals across the country.
'33 has already received critical acclaim like "’33 is a gem of a show, frozen in a moment in time — the rise of fascism in the 1930s — but also beautifully frozen in that moment between rational thought and madness" (The Orlando Sentinel)  and "a stunning theatrical accomplishment" (VUE Magazine, Edmonton.) It won a Fabulous Award at the Orlando Festival 2011, Best Show-Impresario Award at the London Fringe Theatre Festival 2011 and Best Actor in Festival at the London Fringe Theatre Festival.

A fast-paced fusion of reality, comedy, music... and a touch of tragedy. A strikingly original, unpredictable singer's story of  attempting a final comeback, fueled by too many vodka martinis and Kurt Weill's dark and daring songwriting.   Whiskey Bars features 11 of Weill's songs from his earliest work with Brecht in Germany through to some of his last compositions written for the New York stage.

A performer battles an invisible critic, trying every trick he knows to win a good review - lies, seduction, charm, anger and outright begging - and in the process reveals more then he expects about himself.

Whiskey Bars has won awards and recieved four star critical reviews in every city it has played.  An innovative  blend of Cabaret and Theatre, it weaves together comedy, tragedy and the amazing music of Kurt Weill.  Whiskey Bars sets each song into an emotional context and allow the songs to live as stage works, not just as songs in concert or recital.
